Transplant jaw made by a 3D printer

From a BBC news article, A 3D printer-created lower jaw has been fitted to an 83-year-old woman's face in what doctors say is the first operation of its kind. The implant was made out of titanium powder - heated and fused together by a laser, one layer at a time. Technicians say the operation's success paves the way for the use of more 3D-printed patient-specific parts.

Art Meets Technology with new conductive paint.

I met the Bare Conductive Team at Maker Faire in NYC this year and I was excited about their new product in development: Conductive Paint. I just received their email that their products are ready for launch. Bare will launch its first two products, Bare Skin and Bare Paint. Both products act as a conduit for electrical signals to run across a variety of surfaces. The creativity is just beginning. [LINK]

Circuit Sidekick A Great ,Handy App for Anyone doing Elecronics

Circuit Sidekick by Collin Cunningham is a great little app that  deciphers resistor & capacitor codes in a flash, quickly calculates resistance needed for powering any LED, Convert decimal, binary, & hexadecimal numbers, search & view your entire datasheet collection - and more, all from one app. It's $3, but seems worth pulling the trigger to get it - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/circuit-sidekick/id421337886?mt=8

Custom Organizing System lets you design your own setup

I just read about these on Adafruit -  a modular, snap together box system for organizing small parts. Cool! -->www.adafruit.com/blog/2011/08/22/new-products-modular-snap-together-boxes-these-are-awesome/

An all Lego Mini CNC Invention

  • Photo of Lego CNC
  • OK, almost entirely: The actual cutting is done by a metal drill bit. Everything else, however, is Lego system elements. It looks like the machine uses a “raster” type subtractive process, covering the surface of a florist’s foam block in a close-packed grid of holes, each of which is drilled to an appropriate depth to form the final surface contours.

Building a stackable motor driver shield for Arduino

Nick Johnson posted recently work on building a stackable motor driver shield for Arduino. While there are plenty of solutions out there for driving motors, I thought this modular design was a nice touch. Makerbot to have a new rival : Ultimaker

There's a new 3D printer made in the Netherlands that has arrived in the US. The machine, which prints bigger and faster than MakerBot printers, was created by three Dutch makers who met at the Fab Lab in Utrecht, Holland. Presenting the UltimakerUltimaker Photo
